Organic vs Paid: Navigating the Complex Landscape of Social Media Marketing in 2023


In social media, you have two options. You can go to the free way, which is organic, which means you’re going to post on Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Twitter, and on the blog, Tumblr and Pinterest. Are you overwhelmed yet? There are so many different platforms that you can post on for free. There is also the paid way where you actually get to pay to play.

If you want to go to the free way that’s fine. You can totally do that. You can build up your audience organically that way. The downside to that is that it’s slow and it’s not controllable. For example, back in 2012 if you had 100,000 fans on Facebook page for example, you could probably reach 20, 30, or 50 thousand of them with one post. Now if you have 100,000 fans on Facebook you’ll be lucky to reach even 1% of even 1000 or 500 of them to actually see the posts. You’re probably only going to get 10 or 12 likes with 100,000 fans on Facebook.
